Do remember that if you added the repo just write in terminal:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

I added the repository, did apt-get update but package wesnoth is still the one from ubuntu official repo and no wesnoth-unstable package is available. I’m on Kubuntu 8.10. Any ideas? Thanks.
See if I understand … I try to tell you one thing and see.
The stable version is 1.6a and the install with sudo apt-get install wesnoth, while unstable is 1.6 and the install with sudo apt-get install wesnoth-unstable
